Redfield Educate Together Community Day

On 21st September, Redfield Educate Together celebrated Community Day, bringing our termly value of Community to life across the whole school. Community formed the foundation for the day’s learning, alongside our commitment to being a Rights Respecting School, helping children explore their place within our school, local area and wider Bristol community.

We were delighted to welcome parents and carers into school to share the roles they play within our local community, leading workshops in classes and showing children the many ways people contribute to the places where we live. Our whole-school assembly explored St George Park, the skate park, play park and other local community spaces, considering why these places matter and our shared responsibility for looking after them.

Each year group explored a key enquiry question. Year 5 considered, “What are our responsibilities to each other and the environment?”, while Year 6 explored, “How does Bristol operate as a community?” Throughout the learning, children made connections to their rights, including the right to education, belonging, safety, identity and having their voices heard, while considering their responsibilities towards others.

Learning extended beyond the school gates, with children and families completing an “In Our Local Community” scavenger hunt over the weekend. Families then joined us at the end of Community Day to celebrate the children’s work.

It was a wonderful opportunity to bring together our values, Rights Respecting approach, curriculum and families, helping children recognise that they have a voice in their community and can play an active role in making it a kind, safe and welcoming place for everyone.
